For any AP at a remote site that has local DNS, I have a local DNS "unifi" CNAME pointing to my public With that setup, any AP connected to my network LAN gets pointed to the VLAN IP of my controller. My method is to create a "unifi" CNAME in local DNS and public DNS, point it to a publicly-routable FQDN (e.g., ), add an A record for the FQDN in internal DNS that points to the VLAN IP of the controller, and public DNS pointing the FQDN to my WAN IP of my firewall. I have been using UniFi APs for four years and I don't remember that may have been there, but I just don't remember it.

I have had my controller on its own VLAN for a couple of years at least. I don't know of any limitation of adopting on the same subnet. Read the release notes for the firmware upgrades & you'll see why and II: look in the LL corner of the Controller for the speech-bubble icon - that gets you a quick chat with Ubiquiti Tech Support which can be awesome. He did not say it was on the fallback address, although he did mention the same subnet as the fallback IP. I would do the SSH method, but this can be risky if you adopt to the IP of the controller instead of the FQDN.įirst thing first, why is it assigning the fallback address (192.168.1.20) instead of the subnet you're trying to work on? Does it need a static IP assigned ahead of time? They generally need a DHCP address to adopt like that.
